Critical Care

This specialization covers nursing the most unstable patients: haemodynamic and ventilator monitoring and its interpretation, airway and ventilation care, vasoactive and sedative infusions, fluid and electrolyte balance, renal replacement, nutrition, infection prevention in the ICU, pressure area and mobility care, and recognition of deterioration early enough to act. Communication with families facing poor outcomes is treated as part of the skill set.
