This specialization covers how a database is built and why it behaves as it does: the relational model and normalization, indexing and storage layout, query planning and optimisation, transactions and the ACID properties, concurrency control and recovery, and where NoSQL models trade one of these away for another. It is the internals-and-design view; Database Administration under Information Technology is the operational one.
